New Tech Counselor – Tim Kurcz

Tim Kurcz joins our roster of tech counselors with specialization in engines.  You may remember his very interesting presentations from the April and July 2023 chapter meetings (Using and Securing Threaded Fasteners, The Technology of Sealing Threaded and Flanged Systems).  Tim has been a member of the powertrain engineering community for over 50 years, including 26 with Loctite Corporation, and 9 with Jessup Engineering.  He’s a 2000-hour IFR private pilot with high performance, complex, and taildragger endorsements, and 300+ acro hours.  An accomplished boat racer, Tim won two American Power Boat Association national titles, and now modifies outboard engines for racing as a retirement business.   Here is a list of his areas of expertise;

  • Adhesives, sealants, coatings: Thread lockers, thread sealants, retaining compounds
  • Threaded fastener technology: Flanged systems sealing technology
  • Plating, anodizing, metal finishing; Salt Bath Nitro-carburizing
  • Internal combustion engine diagnostics, tuning; Carburetion diagnostics, tuning
  • Nitrous oxide systems; methanol injection charge cooling
  • Centrifugal supercharger systems; Turbocharger systems
  • Precision machinist; Pattern maker – simple castings
  • Tig welder – jigs, fixtures, development work
  • Conventional magnetos, capacitor discharge magnetos, inductive high energy ignition, breaker and breakerless types
  • Aircraft engines Lycoming, Continental, Pratt & Whitney, and Rotax 912 & 914 (as well as automotive and marine)

Take advantage of his knowledge for your current or next project!
