Worked on ranches most my life, but have been interested in air craft since I was a kid. I worked on a ranch near Cove Oregon, where guests and supplies were flown in and out. Saw some nice Piper Cubs, Husky, and Cessnas. I got a ride a few times, very fun. I don’t have a pilots license nor do I have an airplane. Just an interest in airplanes and history about airplanes.

Granbury Texas 76049 817-243-4395 817-573-6897 drgumm@charter.net Past: paint, interior and panel upgrades To my PA 28-180D over seven years, I did Tip tanks, gap seals, in wing Radar and panel upgrades, Custom engine build to my new 1974 A36 Bonanza over 28 yrs.,, I modified my 1979 A36 Bonanza with complete custom paint, leather interior, all new glass and custom built one piece modern upgrade panel with new custom built engine in over fourteen years. I did all the metal fabrication on numerous aircraft panels for complete avionics upgrades as well as aircraft airframe and engine maintenance with Aviation Field Services for approximately seven years. I have been an installer of G-D tinted window inserts for Beechcraft and other aircraft since 1986. I was raised in Southern California from 1941-2003 when I relocated to Pecan Plantation Airpark in Granbury, Texas.
I joined the U S AIR FORCE on my seventeenth birthday in 1955 and served four year active and four years reserve as a Jet Engine Mechanic with two years in Japan..

I acquired my ASMEL COMM INST Ratings from 1969-1975. I owned and operated my Cherokee 180D and two A36 Bonanza’s over the past fifty plus years.

I was employed by Kaiser Aerospace as Manager of Purchasing and Subcontracting (early retired) and then Northrop Grumman as a Major Subcontracts administrator until permanent retirement.

I also served as the Operations Sergeant of the forty member Orange County Sheriffs Aero Squadron form 1984-1997 as a Reserve Officer.

My wife Christal and I co-share six biological children and three foster adopted children. We have been and continue to be foster parents to dozens of medically fragile babies for the past twenty-five years.

Dad was a Barnstormer flying a WWI OX5 powered Jeney on the East coast in the 1930's. During WWII he was a crew chief on B-24's in Tonopah and P47's in Italy. Had an aircraft conversion business (Aerodex) designing and installing interiors in surplus DC-3, C-46, B-17, B-25' and others after the war at MIA. Capt on DC-3, C-46 flying Log Air flights in the 1950's. Went with the CAB (later NTSB) as an Air Safety Investigator in 1960. So naturally I grew up in and around aircraft.

My eyesight needed correction so I knew early on I could not be a military of commercial pilot. In high school I joined the CAP and got interested in electronics. Joined the Navy for electronics training, serving in VS-877 and HS-8 and aboard the USS Bennington CVS-20. Went to work for Pan Am in 1966 as a Flight Simulator Engineer, Then "The Flying Tiger Line" (FTL). Came to Texas in 1983 as a founding employee of SimuFlight at DFW airport where we put 13 Phase II (now Level D) Bizjet Sims into operation over an 18 month period. Retired from SWA in 2015. Worked almost 50 years in Flight Ops with 3 airlines and helped build SimuFlight, providing advanced Simulators to instructors and pilots. I still enjoy being useful to others in aviation, and really love what this EAA chapter is doing to get youth interested in Aviation.
