SUMMARY:Cancelled Pancake Breakfast - ADD Informal Gathering
DESCRIPTION:*** No June Chapter Meeting or Pancake Breakfast ***\nApologies for the late notice.  We were hoping to be able to host a relatively “normal” meeting at our regular time in June.  But because of the interest in getting together\, an informal gathering at Plane View Park may be appropriate.  I (Dick Keyt) plan to drag my airplane out to the Park a little before nine am and visit with those who choose to come.  It should be cool and comfortable in the morning and by 11 to 12 noon when it gets hot\, we can wrap it up. \nIn order to make it simple\, let’s plan on bringing our own beverages and lawn chair. \n\nPark at Plane View Park and walk up to the second hangar to the east. \nParking is limited.  Fly-in\, walk\, or use a golf cart if at all possible.  If visiting from outside Pecan Plantation\, please let the gate attendant know you are going to the regular EAA Chapter 983 monthly meeting. If possible\, please call a Chapter Officer in advance\, and they will be glad to help guide you in. \nBreakfast is $6.00 including pancakes\, sausage\, and drink will be served until about 9:30am and followed by our regular monthly chapter meeting at 10:00am.  Please let Tom Thibault know if you can help set up and serve starting at 7:30 am. \n*** VISITORS ALWAYS WELCOME ***

DESCRIPTION:Andrew Findlay – Reno Air Races 2018 and 2019 Sport Class Gold Medal Winner\nAndrew will be appearing via Zoom from Virginia where he lives with his wife Jackie\, and his two young sons. \n(SEE BELOW FOR HOW TO RESERVE A SEAT OR JOIN VIA ZOOM) \nAndy has raced his entire life – downhill skiing\, snowmobiles\, motorcycles\, and now air-racing in his Lancair Super Legacy.  His competitive nature drives his team to push further while working together to problem solve.  His educational background includes BSME\, MSME\, and MBA.  He’s flown 22 different types of aircraft.  His background is in engine development with BRP (Evinrude)\, and STIHL.  His race team has been built from the network created from different travels and jobs he’s experienced.  Overall\, it’s a team of people who enjoy life and work with a passion. \nOver the years leading up to his championship wins in the world’s fastest motorsport\, Andy and his team made extensive changes to wingtips\, flaps\, and body and paint work\, and then they started working on refining the systems.  He’s well known for his easy going\, down-to-earth personality and willingness to share how he manages to push the engines to 3x their normal power and achieve 400+ mph in a Lancair Super Legacy. \nAndy has been a featured speaker on several well-known aviation podcasts\, and even made the September 2019 cover of AOPA magazine for an article entitled Flying Ridiculously FAST.  A casual search of his name on the internet reveals a treasure trove of articles and videos of interviews and flying low and fast.  Feel free to check them out so you can be prepared with any questions while we get this great chance to interface with Andy on Saturday. \n\nThis will be a combined in-person (limited seating – reservation required) and virtual meeting.  And due to ongoing COVID concerns\, there will be no food service.  Please bring your own snacks and wear a mask.  If weather permits\, we will open the doors and add some outside seating.  We have some large screen TV’s on the west wall for viewing the presentation\, but viewing angles may be limited. \nIn-Person Reservations – Seating is first-come\, first-served\, so please be sure to reserve a spot if you plan to attend in person. \nJoin via Zoom – This link will take you to the Zoom meeting on Saturday morning starting about 10:00am. \nWe also plan to have a live feed via our Facebook page. \nPlease continue to watch this Event Notice for any updates or last minute changes. \nIf visiting from outside Pecan Plantation\, please let the gate attendant know you are going to the regular EAA Chapter 983 monthly meeting. SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting - Zoom Only
DESCRIPTION:Mike Patey of Draco Bush PlaneFame\nThis month we are lucky enough to have the amazing Mike Patey with us via Zoom.  Take a look at the short video on Mike’s homepage for a great introduction to Mike and what he represents. \nAmong accomplishments too numerous to list in this small space\, Mike is a YouTube star with his own channel and hundreds of thousands of followers.  The video he posted after the unfortunate crash of his highly modified Wilga\, named “Draco” (one of the most iconic bush planes ever built) has received over a million views.  Together with his identical twin brother Mark\, they started building their own businesses as teenagers and have since had the “Midas Touch” with businesses such as discount retail\, health care and electric cars.  They build their own planes\, they’ve flown them together and they’ve broken the transcontinental world speed record for internal combustion engines. \nBoth Mike and Mark have ADHD to thank in part for their many successes.  It’s always kept them thinking outside the “box”\, and to this day\, they continue with their outside-the-box innovations in everything they do – not only in their shared businesses\, but in their airplane construction endeavors.  Mike’s current main aviation project (who knows how many he has in the back of his mind!) is an amazing Carbon Cub made out of spare parts.  Actually “amazing” doesn’t even begin to describe the level of expertise and attention to detail poured into this one of a kind build.  Google Mike Patey and be astounded by the ways he turns the ordinary into extraordinary.   View some of his YouTube videos and prepare yourselves to ask questions while we have this special time with Mike this Saturday. \n\nThis will be a combined in-person (limited seating – reservation required) and virtual meeting only. \nIn-Person Reservations – n/a. \nJoin via Zoom – This Zoom Link will take you to the meeting on Saturday morning starting about 10:00am.\nMeeting ID: 848 5301 3269\nPasscode:  176627 \nPlease continue to watch this Event Notice for any updates or last minute changes. \nIf visiting from outside Pecan Plantation\, please let the gate attendant know you are going to the regular EAA Chapter 983 monthly meeting. SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting - LIVE and via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Glider Club by Dick Keyt\nWe will be meeting this Saturday.  It will be a combined “in-person” and Zoom meeting.  Hopefully as the Covid winds down over the next few months\, our pace and activities will return to “normal”.  This week our speaker will be Dick Keyt joined by various members of the Glider Club.  The club has been very active the last several months and the two-seat Schweizer SGU 2-22 will be ready to fly late spring or early summer.  The focus has been on the young adults of our community and has triggered quite an interest on their part.  We will have a presentation on the progress to date. \nLocal EAA chapters are prohibited from operating an aircraft.  Therefore\, we are considering donating the Schweizer to the Glider Club.  The Chapter Officers and Directors believe the most expedient way to do this is via the Polen Foundation.  The Polen Foundation is already registered as a non-profit and has a recognized history of successfully introducing youth to various aspects of aviation.  Dick Keyt has indicated his willingness to make use of the Polen Foundation to manage this airframe on behalf of the Glider Club. \nIn addition\, the Chapter Officers and Directors believe the Chapter should make a cash donation to the Glider Club (again\, via the Polen Foundation) on behalf of the youth who are participating in the project to restore the glider to flying condition.  Justis Lindsay has been an active participant.  Justis was awarded our Academy Scholarship for 2020\, but due to COVID the event was cancelled.  We feel it would be appropriate for the Chapter to donate $1\,500 to be used to purchase supplies and materials for the glider restoration.  And in the future\, we feel the Chapter might consider additional donations based on progress and success of the Glider Club in getting young adults involved and active in aviation. \n\nThere will be no food service.  Please bring your own snacks.  In keeping with the latest “mandates” from the Texas governor\, masks are suggested but not required. \nJoin via Zoom on Saturday morning\, 13 March starting about 10:00am.  We also plan to have a live feed via our Facebook page. \nPlease continue to watch this Event Notice for any updates or last minute changes. \nIf visiting from outside Pecan Plantation\, please let the gate attendant know you are going to the regular EAA Chapter 983 monthly meeting. If possible\, please call a Chapter Officer in advance\, and they will be glad to help guide you in. \n*** VISITORS ALWAYS WELCOME ***

SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting - UPDATED
DESCRIPTION:Use this link to join via Zoom:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84619241354\nBeth Stanton\n10 years ago\, Beth Stanton was a still few months out from her private pilot checkride. She never could have imagined what happened next. \nAfter seeking upset training to face her fear of spins\, she was inadvertently launched into the world of competition aerobatics. Elected President of the Northern California International Aerobatic Club Chapter 38\, she gained aerobatic prowess and subsequently showered with glorious aerobatic glory. \nWhile crewing at the Reno National Championship Air Races\, the trajectory of life shifted when Bob Hoover signed the boob of her Nice Pitts t-shirt. Little could she know this escapade would launch a new career as an aviation journalist. \nBeth will reveal just how a math phobic English major became a noted expert on emerging aerospace technology. She will explain how she finds topics to write about\, share her favorite stories\, and advise which shoulder to turn to when the angel and devil are dancing. \nBIO\nBeth E. Stanton is an accomplished pilot\, writer and speaker. Since following a wild hair to learn how to fly at age 41\, she has flown competition aerobatics\, helicopters\, electric aircraft\, drones\, and was a test pilot for a prototype eVTOL contraption. \nShe authors feature articles and columns for aviation publications\, and is writing a memoir. Her absolute favorite thing is the Innovation\, Cutting Edge Developments column she writes for EAA Sport Aviation magazine. Every month gets to talk to smart and famous people who are working on some seriously badass projects. They don’t know it yet\, but she is totally going to pimp them out to be guests on her soon to be launched aerospace innovation podcast. \n\nThis will be a combined in-person and virtual meeting.  No food service is planned.  Please bring your own snacks.  If weather permits\, we will open the doors and add some outside seating. SUMMARY:Pancake Breakfast and Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Breakfast served 8:30 to 9:30 am\nMeeting starts 10:00 am\n\nCharlotte Rhodes\nThis week’s presenter\, by Zoom\, will be my friend Charlotte Rhodes\, now retired after 37.5 years of Federal Service. \nHer first 10 years were in the Air Force\, 4 years as an EMT\, then 6 as a controller/supervisor.  She’s also been the Assistant Chief ATC Training and an FAA examiner\, certifying other controllers.  In 1985 she was selected as AISD’s Air Traffic Controller of the Year out of 400 applicants.  She was a direct hire to the FAA in 1988.  She spent time directing traffic in New Orleans\, Great Falls\, MT\, and then on to Abilene for the remainder of her career where she stayed busy coordinating aircraft in and out of ABI and in and around Dyess Air Force Base. \nCharlotte remains active in her local EAA Chapter\, has her private pilot’s license and is heavily involved in the annual AirFest\, the last three years as Airboss.  The rubber really met the road\, however\, in 2005 when she was selected to work KOSH every July until she retired in 2015\, the last five years as Controller/Team Lead.  She’s worked both the tower and the FISK Approach and says she’s been on the receiving end of congestion at the holds and “it can be ugly”.  Charlotte has kindly offered to share with us about some of those experiences\, and will help us brush up on this year’s AirVenture Arrival NOTAM and the new arrival points\, from her unique Pink Shirt perspective.  Check out the 2021 NOTAM and have your questions handy for this not-to-be-missed timely opportunity! \nAlso on the agenda will be our Annual Fly-In Man-In-Charge\, Dave Smith.  Dave will be discussing the exciting things we have planned for the September 25 event\, including some fantastic volunteer opportunities\, fund raising plans and FOOD TRUCKS!!!  It’s going to be tons of fun\, so make sure to mark your calendars for the last weekend of September.\nHope to see everyone on Saturday! \nAnnElise Bennett\nVP \n\nBreakfast Volunteers – Please let Tom Thibault know if you can help set up and serve starting at 7:30am. \nCOVID Notice – This will be an in-person meeting with food service.  Please consider your personal immunity and risk status before deciding whether to attend.  And as always\, be respectful of other members and guests. \nPark at Plane View Park and walk up to the second hangar to the east \nIf visiting from outside Pecan Plantation\, please let the gate attendant know you are going to the regular EAA Chapter 983 monthly meeting. SUMMARY:Pancake Breakfast and Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Fly-In Preparations by Dave Smith\, and\nCAD/CAM by Jimmy De La Garza\nGreetings 983!  Hope everyone is staying cool and well. \nWe will start the day with our usual pancake breakfast this Saturday. Volunteers will need to be in place and ready to serve sausage and pancakes from 8 to 9:30. Any questions should be directed to Dick Keyt. \nThis week’s meeting will be Fly-in Informative and we’ll be finalizing committees for each “area of need” to pull off a successful event. We will need all hands on deck for set up prior to the event\, and a lead to coordinate setup\, so mark your calendars for the week leading up to Saturday\, September 25.  We are still in need of trailers\, tow vehicles\, and drivers.  Dave Smith has been working hard to make this the most organized and successful Fly In we’ve ever had.  Get ready to roll up your sleeves and sign up–we really need to have these positions filled prior to the event so that we can staff appropriately and evenly\, and everyone gets a chance to enjoy the weekend. \nThis week’s presentation will be by our own Jimmy De La Garza.  Jimmy and his partner Eric moved to Pecan around 11 years ago and first became interested in aviation about four years ago after riding with Dick in the Ryan.  Jimmy had a previously acquired passion for CAD/CAM\, designing architectural plans\, renderings\, and proposals since the days of Windows 3.1\, and extended that knowledge to working with 3D printers and CNC for the past 10 years. \nHe has now partnered with Dick and designs new tools for Ryan Machine.  He’s also combined his two great interests of aviation and manufacturing to design and produce various aviation components\, such as entire panels and various 3D printed owner-provided parts. \nThere are many ways for CNC tools to assist in the design and manufacturing of components for homebuilt and certified aircraft\, and he is looking forward to demonstrating a few of them that he has at his disposal.  He plans on giving an overview of how each works\, some of the limitations each of them have\, and how they’ve personally used them both in the rebuild of their Musketeer and to assist others with their projects as well. \nIt should be an interesting and productive meeting.  See you all Saturday! \nAnnElise Bennett and\nRichard Keyt\nRyan Machine\, LLC\n9608 Taxiway Dr\nGranbury\, TX 76049\nTelephone (817) 573-2786\nhttp://ryanaircrafttools.com \n\n\n\n\n\nBreakfast Volunteers – Please let Tom Thibault know if you can help set up and serve starting at 7:00am.
